Related Argent sponsors giant owl as part of The Big Fun Art Adventure, raising money for North London Hospice

Related Argent is proud to be one of several local sponsors of The Big Fun Art Adventure, which will see 30 uniquely designed owls – each standing at over 6ft tall – dotted across Haringey for eight weeks from 17 August.

The beautifully designed parliament of owl sculptures will form part of a family-friendly trail aimed at raising awareness and much-needed funds for the North London Hospice.

Each owl has been painted by a local artist in their own signature style and will be ‘hidden in plain sight’ across the borough for people to discover over the summer and autumn.

Using an app or paper map to locate the owls, people can track their progress on the fun, free and easy-to-follow trail and unlock rewards as they go.

The Related Argent-sponsored owl is called ‘Our Neighbourhood’ and has been lovingly hand-painted by the Canadian-born local artist, Maria Centola. It will be located in the Heart of Hale development between One Ashley Road and Tottenham Hale train station.

Mark Swinburne, development director at Related Argent’s Heart of Hale development, said: “We have been working in Haringey for several years and always look for ways to give back to the local community, which has been so supportive of our work in Heart of Hale. When the opportunity to sponsor an owl as part of the art trail came up, we jumped at the chance. As well as bringing more people to the area, it will help raise vital funds for the North London Hospice, which relies so heavily on donations to keep its services running.”

Artist Maria Centola, pictured with the Related Argent owl before it was painted, added: “My work has connectivity at its core, referencing an art deco, futuristic style with bright colours and bold shapes. Vibrancy and colour are my primary sources of inspiration and through my art, I aim to infuse positivity and energy into people’s lives. My goal is to spread joy throughout the streets of Haringey!

“This design of Related Argent’s owl was inspired by the everyday elements that connect me to my neighbourhood, making North London feel like home. I chose this scene to blend art and nature: the trees, nature, animals and the wonderful feelings that come from spending time outdoors remind us how fortunate we are to live in this part of London.

“Partnering with Related Argent is particularly exciting for me as Tottenham is a place where I spend a lot of my time bouldering, taking pottery lessons, cycling around the city or walking along the wetlands. Having my owl placed there makes it even more special!”

The 30 owls will be displayed alongside more than 20 miniature owls – or ‘owlets’ – designed by local school children and community groups, adding to the vibrancy, creativity and culture on offer in North London.

After eight weeks on their perches, there will be the chance to say a final goodbye at a special farewell event where all the owls come together before they are auctioned to raise money for North London Hospice, helping to meet its annual running costs of more than £15 million.

The owlets will be returned to their forever nests at their school or community group.

The Big Fun Art Adventure is the first mass participation event of its kind in North London and is being run in partnership with world-renowned creative producers, Wild in Art.

Charlie Langhorne, Managing Director and Co-founder Wild in Art said: “The owls will bring colour and creativity to North London and I have no doubt that they will capture everyone’s imagination. The trail will be a great opportunity for people to discover the local area and experience some truly unique and inspiring artwork, while finding out more about the important work of North London Hospice.”
