Related California and The County of San Bernardino complete phase three of affordable community Bloomington Grove

On November 30th, Related California and The County of San Bernardino commemorated the completion of phase three of Bloomington Grove, an affordable community that also features a public library. The successful public-private partnership has resulted in 89 new affordable residences—including 20 that will be reserved for residents with special needs—as well as a future 8,500-square-foot public park and community center.

Related and Esusu expand free program across affordable properties to help more residents strengthen their financial health

Related partnered with Esusu in 2020 to help residents in many affordable buildings improve their credit scores and more easily manage their finances, with a mission to reduce housing inequality nationwide. Now, the free program will expand to more than 50,000 units across the country, using big data to automate the process of sending residents' on-time rent payment information to credit bureaus.

Balboa Park Upper Yard breaks ground in San Francisco with 100% affordable housing and a revamped BART station

On November 9th, Related California and Mission Housing broke ground on Balboa Park Upper Yard, a 100% affordable development. Balboa Park is one of the first affordable developments to be approved under new California law SB-35, and will bring 131 affordable residences to San Francisco.

Permanently affordable development Riverwalk Park presents NYC’s workforce with high-quality housing

Located in NYC's Roosevelt Island neighborhood, Riverwalk Park is a 340-unit permanently affordable development completed in 2020. The Enterprise Green Communities Certified building caters to low-, middle- and moderate-income New Yorkers, including nurses, veterans, teachers and firefighters.

We started exclusively as an affordable housing developer in 1972, and today, we are one of the largest developers and preservationists of affordable and workforce housing in the country. Currently, we own and manage 55,000 affordable and workforce housing apartment homes and we are proud to have never converted a single unit of affordable housing to market rate.

Together with LR Contracting Company and Bowa Construction, Related Midwest broke ground on 900 Randolph in Chicago on November 4th. When completed, 900 Randolph will introduce 300 residences to the Fulton Market neighborhood—with 20 percent to be designated as affordable.

Co-developed by Related Northwest and non-profit Central City Concern, Cedar Commons has opened in East Portland, offering permanently-supportive housing to some of the most vulnerable local residents. Central City Concern will also provide residents with on-site services such as mental health services and employment support and training.

Affordable development Willets Point breaks ground in Queens

On Wednesday, June 16th, the city officially broke ground on the environmental cleanup efforts needed for the Willets Point redevelopment in Queens. The project is being undertaken by a pair of developers called Queens Development Group, which includes Related Companies and Sterling Equities.

With a mission to help millions of young lower- to middle-income Londoners who are essential to the city’s economy, Pocket Living serves locals who cannot afford to buy a market rate home and don’t qualify for traditional affordable housing. Pocket Homes are discounted 20% below market value, and eligible purchasers are defined by their income levels, as well as where they live and work.

Designed by architecture firm Metropolitan Workshop, the 27-story building has a striking turquoise terracotta exterior and a distinctive triangular core, and has won multiple awards for both its design and social impact.
