Related announces summer art, music and culinary series to kick off July 23rd with celebrated artist Bradley Theodore

Related Rentals today announced the launch of Art Park, an art, music and culinary evening event series kicking off July 23rd and located at the lushly landscaped courtyard of Abington House on the High Line. Each Wednesday, attendees can watch artists create new works of art, while listening to live performances and enjoying culinary delights from some of New York’s most well known food trucks.

The six-week summer event commences this Wednesday, July 23rd from 6-9pm with popular artist Bradley Theodore, known for his skeletal-themed murals featuring celebrities such as Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld, and New York City’s very own Pint-Sized Cocktail Orchestra. The Milk Truck will be serving gourmet grilled cheese delights and the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck will also be on hand.

“This series celebrates the Abington House’s dedication to art, and pays homage to its location on the High Line and within the lively Chelsea arts scene,” said Daria Salusbury, Related’s Senior Vice President and head of luxury leasing. “Related is thrilled to be a part of this exciting area and to launch a summer series that celebrates the diverse art, music and culinary delights that New York and this neighborhood are known for.”

Each Wednesday, an artist will work in Abington House’s landscaped courtyard, creating art ranging from murals and graffiti art to 3D chalk art. The creation process is open to the public and each event, taking place from 6pm to 9pm, will feature some of New York City’s most favorite food trucks as well as up-and-coming musicians who are headlining some of New York’s best venues including Bowery Ballroom, Smalls and the BlueNote.

Artists will update the progress of their work using #AHartpark, while visitors are encouraged to also use the #AHartpark hashtag. Anyone who visits one of the events at Abington House and posts a picture on the Abington House Facebook page, or on Instagram or Twitter using #AHartpark, will be automatically entered to win an official photograph of one of the art pieces. Winners will be announced on Facebook and Twitter on Tuesday, September 2nd at noon.

Co-developed by Related Companies and Abington Properties, the 33-story Abington House features 312 thoughtfully crafted residences in West Chelsea, offering residents breathtaking views of the High Line, the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline. Inspired by the area’s industrial history, Abington House proudly juxtaposes the energetic modernity and industrial strength of the surrounding neighborhood. Throughout the building, carefully curated artwork by Daniel Aubry, Espen Eiborg, Tomas Nittner, Peter O’Kennedy, Tim Prentice, Freddy Reitz and Mandy Stobo enhance circulation and energy. Alberto Amura served as Feng Shui consultant.
The Art Park series will take place in the building’s landscaped courtyard, designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, which features a large scale Katsura tree, Dawn Redwoods, Larch, Redbud, Dogwood, fragrant Sumac and Willow Oak trees, wild grasses and Mountain Pine shrubs.
Clodagh Design curated the building’s compelling art program. The art collection also includes “Urban Dogs,” sculptured dog shaped benches, with perky tails and friendly faces, created specifically for Abington House by Terence Main, and “12,000 Colored Pencils,” a powerful 10-foot art piece displaying thousands of colored pencils. A concrete Berber “rug” is highlighted by a glass-clad vestibule twenty-feet high, flanked by soaring end-grain, mesquite-clad walls under a ceiling canopy luminous with tubular lights banded with copper and steel.
