Related Companies joins Habitat For Humanity New York City to repair homes damaged by superstorm Sandy and makes commitment to participate in annual Carter Work Project events

More than 40 volunteers from the Hudson Yards team are restoring homes in Queens

Related Companies today announced that a team of over 40 volunteers has this week joined Habitat for Humanity New York City to repair homes in Queens damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The volunteer team is made up of employees from Related Companies, Oxford Properties Group, Tishman Construction and Tutor Perini, who are all working on the development of Hudson Yards – the largest private development in the nation. Related also announced that in addition to this week’s project, the company is making a long-term commitment to Habitat for Humanity and will volunteer each year to assist in the annual Carter Work Project Events.

“The Hudson Yards team is honored to join the more than 1,000 Habitat NYC volunteers in New York City who will be repairing homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy,” said Ronald W. Wackrow the Executive Vice President for Related Companies overseeing the design and construction of Hudson Yards. “Since its founding Related has been committed to revitalizing communities and is proud to make a long-term commitment to support Habitat for Humanity and its critical mission. For decades, both Related Companies and the Carters have worked to build affordable homes and raise awareness about the overall need for affordable housing nationwide. Since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have worked to raise awareness about the critical need for affordable housing across the country and around the world, and this year marks the 30th annual Jimmy and Roselyn Carter Work Project to build and repair homes.

In addition to the work being done here in New York City, the Habitat for Humanity’s Carter Work Project will also have events in Oakland and San Jose, CA, Denver, CO, and Union Beach, N.J.
