Related Companies today announced that John R. S. Jacobsson has been named Executive Vice President. In this newly created position, Mr. Jacobsson will be a member of the senior management team, pursuing new investment and business opportunities and sustaining and building upon Related Companies’ relationships with the global institutional investor community.

Prior to joining Related, Mr. Jacobsson was a partner at AREA Property Partners (formerly known as Apollo Real Estate Advisors). Mr. Jacobsson originally joined AREA at the time of its founding in 1993 and was, until the end of 2011, a Partner and the leader of AREA’s North America Opportunity Funds business, overseeing AREA’s opportunistic investments in the U.S. and Mexico. He served on AREA’s Investment Committee as well as on the Board of Directors of VEF Advisors, AREA’s value added investment business.
Mr. Jacobsson started his career in real estate in 1990 as a member of the acquisitions group of Trammell Crow Ventures in Dallas. Mr. Jacobsson serves as a Trustee of Groton School in Groton, Massachusetts, of which is a graduate, and of Trinity School in New York City. He also serves on the Board of Directors of HEAF, a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization based in Harlem.
Mr. Jacobsson graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard College.
