Kava Cafe to open at MiMA

Kava Cafe, the Meatpacking District’s stylish espresso bar, has signed a long-term lease for a second location at MiMA, Related Companies’ 63-story mixed-use glass tower featuring luxury rental residences. Kava Cafe’s MiMA location will be double the size of its first cozy café at 803 Washington Street, and is scheduled to open later this year. Kava Cafe has a well-earned reputation as both a neighborhood and celebrity hang-out.

Patrons at the new location at MiMA will enjoy an expanded full-service menu for breakfast, lunch and light dinner, with a choice of indoor and sidewalk seating. It will feature a full bar and signature wine collection, in addition to its superb espresso menu and selection of fresh organic juices. Private parties, catering and delivery service will also be available to residents of MiMA and the public.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring such a high-quality brand to our residents and to the entire community,” said Greg Gushee, Senior Vice President of Related Companies. “Kava Cafe has a well-earned reputation as a neighborhood destination to eat, drink and converse with the community and is the perfect complement to MiMA’s meticulously curated blend of residences, culture and lifestyle offerings.”

“We are very excited to open a new location of Kava Cafe for the MiMA residents and local community on West 42nd Street,” said John Saric, founder of Kava Cafe and a partner at the Ace Hotel New York. “We will feature a pour over coffee bar serving quality coffee varietals, with enhanced brewing techniques.”

The 1,400 square foot ground floor space facing West 42nd Street will be situated between the entrance to One MiMA Tower and the Signature Theatre Company's Frank Gehry-designed off-Broadway Pershing Square Signature Center. Kava Cafe’s MiMA location will be designed by VLDG with architecture by MLG and will feature similar finishes as its current location highlighting white oak, terrazzo, and brass. Clocks showing the time in various time zones will be prominently featured, as Kava Café will be an international destination. Also on display will be the cafe’s signature Strada espresso machine built by La Marzocco, a rare sighting in New York City.
