Snarkitecture to open their first permanent exhibition space

Snark Park to feature a rotating series of immersive installations to debut March 2019 at Hudson Yards

New York-based design studio Snarkitecture is pleased to announce Snark Park, its first permanent exhibition space in New York City’s new Hudson Yards. Known for their cunning reinterpretations of the familiar—structures, objects, experiences—Snarkitecture’s Snark Park will live as a site for immersive installations housing design environments for all ages to explore, discover and enjoy. It will open to the public on Friday, March 15, 2019.

On the heels of Snarkitecture’s tenth anniversary, Snark Park’s debut marks a new chapter in the studio’s extraordinarily magnetic and versatile practice. Its robust offerings will include museum-quality installations together with a strong lineup of partnership programming. The public outpost aims to make design accessible to an expansive audience by offering a platform for both creative ideation and cross-disciplinary activation. “We are thrilled to embark on this new journey at Hudson Yards,” says Snarkitecture Partner Ben Porto. “Snark Park will act as an incubator for a host of bold new concepts—a catalyst for our imagination of the future of cultural spaces.” Snark Park is the culmination of the studio’s decade-long exploration of art and architecture, and the curious in-between.

It follows a series of much-buzzed about installations including The Beach (2015) and Fun House (2018) at the National Building Museum, as well as collaborations with Calvin Klein, COS, KITH, Design Miami/ and the New Museum. Introducing a tri-annual exhibition schedule, Snark Park will debut unique, playful design environments that incorporate Snarkitecture’s use of unconventional materials and concepts of reduction and monochrome—hallmarks of the studio’s oeuvre. Everyday objects and familiar settings will be reimagined, creating unexpected and memorable moments that challenge the mind to reassess visual cues and investigate the commonplace with a fresh curiosity.

As the city’s newest destination for creative engagement, Snark Park will complement a dynamic series of cultural experiences at Hudson Yards. “Our aim has always been to create architecture that performs unexpectedly, to explore the edges of art and architecture,” says Snarkitecture Partner Daniel Arsham. "With Snark Park we hope to encourage visitors to reconsider their built environment with childlike wonder." As part of New York’s newest neighborhood, Snark Park welcomes a community as diverse as its offerings—visitors will encounter cutting-edge concepts that both animate dialogue and inspire imagination. In addition to on-site food and beverage offerings, each installation will be accompanied by a unique retail experience, including an exclusive partnership with KITH Treats, Snarkitecture-designed limited edition objects and one-of-a-kind collaborations with brands from around the world.

Snark Park is presented by Snarkitecture and Hudson Yards. Snark Park's online presence will be powered by and created in partnership with Squarespace, the leading all-in-one website building platform. Snark Park will be located in The Shops and Restaurants at 20 Hudson Yards on the second floor. Tickets for timed entry begin on Thursday, January 31, 2019, but the public can sign up for updates until then at snarkpark.com. More information, including additional partnerships and the inaugural exhibition concept, will also be announced at this time. @snarkpark / #SnarkParknyc

About Snarkitecture:
Snarkitecture is a New York-based collaborative design practice established to investigate the boundaries between disciplines. The name is drawn from Lewis Carroll’s The Hunting of The Snark, a poem describing the “impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature.” In its search for the unknown, Snarkitecture creates work that includes large-scale projects, installations and objects. Snarkitecture’s work focuses on the reinterpretation of everyday materials, structures and programs to new and imaginative effect. With a conceptual approach centered on the importance of experience, the studio creates unexpected and memorable moments that invite people to explore and engage with their surroundings.
