Sales launch for 520 West 28th

The first residential building by Zaha Hadid Architects in New York City

Related Companies today announced the official launch of sales at 520 West 28th, the highly anticipated first residential building in New York designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Zaha Hadid. Spanning a substantial portion of the block from 27th to 28th Streets, 520 West 28th is located in the heart of West Chelsea’s thriving arts district, which is centered around the High Line, stretching from the newly-opened Whitney Museum at its south to the future Culture Shed at Hudson Yards at its north.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the High Line and its possibilities for the city. Decades ago, I used to visit the galleries in the area and consider how to build along the route. It's very exciting to be building there now,” said Zaha Hadid. “The design engages with the city while concepts of fluid spatial flow create a dynamic new living environment.”

Zaha Hadid’s compelling design takes a sculptural approach, instead of New York’s traditionally rectangular residential landscape, with Hadid’s unique design sensibility infused throughout the residences of 520 West 28th. The 11-story development, with 21 interlaced floors, will feature 39 distinctive residences up to a sprawling 6,391 square feet and ceiling heights up to nearly 11 feet high. Each of the 39 luxury condominiums at 520 West 28th will bear its own unique number to reflect the limited edition nature of these works of art, ranging in price from $4,950,000 to $50 million for the largest penthouse.

Zaha Hadid has created a seamless vision for the residential interiors that reflect the distinctive nature of the exterior façade. The building’s organic curves and chevron patterns on the outside create generous outdoor spaces and enhance the privacy between residences, simultaneously merging and separating the interior and exterior. Each residence will also feature a distinct Zaha Hadid sculptural element that creates dramatic feature walls while integrating closets and concealed-hinge doors, making a profound design statement on the interior of each home.

520 West 28th is strategically situated on the High Line with specific vantage points that allow the residents of to enjoy the High Line while maintaining privacy and exclusivity. The property is also located just two blocks from Related’s Hudson Yards development. In addition to 14 acres of public open space and an exciting new arts venue known as the Culture Shed, Hudson Yards will also include the new headquarters of Time Warner, Inc., CNN, Coach, Inc., L’Oreal USA and SAP, in addition to an Equinox Fitness Club and branded hotel, more than 100 shops—including New York City’s first Neiman Marcus—and a restaurant collection curated by Thomas Keller. For the residents of 520 West 28th, Hudson Yards will augment the West Chelsea neighborhood with its unique combination of lifestyle services and amenities.

“We are thrilled to unveil 520 West 28th in partnership with the award-winning Zaha Hadid Architects, whom Related has commissioned to design this one-of-a-kind property,” said Greg Gushee, executive vice president of Related Companies. “520 West 28th will make a profound statement to New York City’s visual landscape with its compelling design and prominent location on the High Line, while at the same time offering residents an exclusive opportunity to live within a work of art designed by one of the world’s most celebrated architects.”

This wholly unique contemporary and sculptural property is sure to create a unique dynamism in one of Manhattan’s most exciting neighborhoods. 520 West 28th is scheduled for early 2017 completion with the superstructure construction now underway.
