As internet access is more important now than ever, Related seeks to provide reliable high-speed internet services in properties nationwide. Since 2018, Related has partnered with Starry to offer the company’s notoriously fast broadband internet to residents of select affordable buildings in cities where the service is offered. Starry is currently available in Related communities located in Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Boston, with more cities on the horizon.
Starry’s innovative technology differentiates their service and allows them to provide internet speeds that are five times as fast as wired internet providers. Their internet service remains consistent even at peak hours, potentially powering up to 60 devices at a time. Using less hardware than other providers, one small Starry antenna can provide internet service to an entire neighborhood by beaming the signal to each building’s individual receiver, which is designed specifically according to the building’s size. Related consistently seeks partnerships with companies that not only develop innovative technologies, but that enhance residents’ lives on a daily basis. Because many lower-income residents face challenges when it comes to being able to afford broadband internet or to choose their provider, the partnership with Starry represents a new opportunity for residents.
Starry participates in the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program, launched by the FCC to assist families experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic by helping them pay for internet access.
