On April 11th, Related Beal and DREAM Development, a 100% minority-owned firm, announced that the team has been selected by the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) to introduce much-needed affordable residences to Boston. The 50/50 partnership will transform the Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s (BWSC) existing parking lots located in Nubian Square within the Roxbury neighborhood. The development's proposal honors the Roxbury Strategic Master Plan and PLAN: Nubian to address important issues within the community, including new housing, wealth creation and equity, health and urban heat islands, equitable mobility and community infrastructure.
Together, Related Beal and DREAM will develop over 400 sustainably designed affordable and workforce residences, with 79 units reserved for low- to moderate-income first-time homebuyers and 94 units dedicated to seniors. Five buildings will be positioned around a 25,000-square-foot Central Green and complemented by additional open and green spaces, providing more than an acre of community-focused outdoor space to engage the neighborhood. Residents will also have access to affordable retail and community-serving spaces dedicated to incubators, small businesses, workforce training and other community uses.
