On June 20th, The Shops and Restaurants at Hudson Yards hosted an event, Color for India, in partnership with The Culture Tree and The India Center Foundation to raise funds for COVID relief in India, while also celebrating Holi, the Indian spring festival of colors. Color For India was a family event, featuring performances and workshops to celebrate the colorful festival of Holi.

The festival included a puppet show, Colors of Krishna’s Love, which brought Krisha to life to tell a popular story associated with Holi, as the festival has its roots in ancient Indian mythology. Lord Krishna loves to have fun with his friends and family. In the show, he celebrated Holi by throwing colored powder on others, sharing love and laughter. The audience learned the story of Holi and also how it is celebrated.

Holi is the perfect festival to celebrate new beginnings, while incorporating themes of diversity and inclusion. Dance performances and workshops in the festival included a free event featuring creative movement and celebratory music inspired by Holi. Classical, folk and Bollywood dance elements were incorporated into choreography suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.

As India is facing one of the world’s worst Coronavirus crises, Color for India acted as a platform to raise money for COVID-19 relief. 6 Indian-American children are helping with this initiative, the Akanksha Education Fund, which we are currently fundraising for. Support the cause and make your donation today.
