San Francisco's Fifteen Fifty is a 1.2-million-square-foot mixed-income and mixed-use development offering 550 luxury homes. To reduce the building’s environmental footprint, Related partnered with Epic Cleantec, which has incorporated water reuse technology to recycle the building's wastewater on-site. Normally, off-site water reuse solutions are costly and not the most efficient, but because Fifteen Fifty's water recycling system is on-site, it's able to capture and recycle 95% of water that's used in the building. The resulting non-potable treated water can be used for irrigation, cooling towers, laundry and toilet flushing. Every year, this sustainable system enables Fifteen Fifty to reuse over 2.5 million gallons of water, which saves the city an equivalent amount in its drinking water supply.
