On January 8, mixed-use neighborhood Brent Cross Town announced the five recipients of its 2024 Community Fund, which will receive a total of £50,000 towards projects that will positively impact the lives of North London residents with a focus on skill building and education. For the first time in the fund's 5-year history, Barnet residents and the local community voted for the winners, selecting a range of projects to support people in their neighborhood. The funded projects are: Brighter Futures for Young People by Pro Touch SA, which will help young people discover sports-related careers; Employment Support for People with Learning Disabilities and Autistic People by Barnet Mencap, which supports individuals with learning disabilities and autism as they search for employment; The Lab Records by Art Against Knives, which creates a safe social space for at-risk youths to learn musical skills; Art Café by We Restart, which presents weekly educational workshops for local asylum seekers; and Sustainable Barnet by Motivez CIC, which will connect underserved young people with STEM professionals for training opportunities.
