Terrific Tenements is located at 527 West 47^th Street and 425 West 48^th Street in Manhattan. With the opening of nearby Manhattan Plaza (also a Related property) in 1977, the process of gentrification began in the surrounding area. Stores and restaurants now occupy formerly vacant store fronts on Ninth Avenue from 42^nd Street to 57^th Street.  Now the formerly notorious Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood is one of Manhattan’s “hot” new neighborhoods. The buildings contain 88 units of affordable housing, and are federally subsidized under the Section 8 program.
