From June 18th-20th, children’s bookstore Rohi’s Readery commemorated its grand opening with a weekend of family-friendly events at The Square. Pranati "Pranoo" Kumar founded the shop to teach critical literacy on social justice issues and to help uplift the stories of historically marginalized people represented in Black and Brown, LGBTQIA+, disabled and immigrant communities. Kumar hopes to further conversations around social justice and to educate the public with in-store programming and a future campus resource hub. One of the ongoing events she hosts with Rohi’s Readery is “Revolutionary Storytime,” a family read-along featuring non-fiction books that promote diversity and tell inspiring true stories about community members. By providing an intentionally inclusive communal space that connects people to critical literacy resources and workshops that they otherwise may not have access to, Rohi’s Readery aims to help children and their families shape a more equitable future.
